The Dungeon
The original Gaol Dungeon is open again for the first time in over 100 years. Dare you come and experience first hand the harshness of life in the Dungeon, where you will see the punishments being meted out and hear the anguished cries of the prisoners or you could just sit in the solitude cell and feel the desperation of those that were there before you.

The building of Wicklow Gaol commenced in 1702 and was completed within a few years. The earliest recorded prisoner was Fr. Owen Mc Fee..............

RESTORATION

The concept of developing the Old Gaol as a visitors' centre emerged in 1985 when a Gaol advisory group was established by Wicklow County Council.

How to find us:
By Car, by bus and train. The Gaol is situated at the southern end of Wicklow town beside the courthouse.
